What are metal braces?

Ligature braces use elastic ligatures (elastic bands) with which the braces are fixed on the arch. To make the design look more aesthetically pleasing, they are produced with black, silver, white rubber bands. This allows the use of ligatures that will shade the enamel, make the teeth whiter, and if necessary, the patient can choose the product even for the color of the skin and eyes.

How long does the treatment with metal braces take?

The terms of treatment are determined individually in each case. On average, the treatment time is 1-2 years, and with significant defects it can reach 2.5 years.

The duration of treatment depends on the following factors:

Installation of metal braces

During treatment, the patient periodically visits the orthodontist. To facilitate adaptation, treatment is carried out in stages. A correction is performed about once a month – the arch is tightened, and every 3-4 months – professional cleaning in dentistry.

With the help of a metal bracket system, almost any bite pathology can be eliminated. After treatment, the results must be fixed, for which a fixed arch is installed on the inner surface of the teeth, which is worn one and a half to two times longer than the bracket systems. The following rules should be followed from the very first days of wearing braces:

• After installing braces, you will have to brush your teeth more than twice a day. This should be done after each meal, and if this is not possible, be sure to rinse your mouth with a special liquid.
• To clean the oral cavity, you should use not only a regular toothbrush, but also special devices: an irrigator, brushes, dental floss.
• For the duration of treatment, one should refuse to consume solid foods, and in addition, it is necessary to reduce the amount of coffee, tea, and wine consumed.
