Therapeutic dentistry

Despite the fact that we use the most effective pastes, regularly change brushes and clean our teeth, regularly test a lot of other products for the care of teeth and oral cavity, dental treatment as a service does not cease to be in demand.

It turns out that the health of our teeth and gums depends not only on the paste used, the regularity of hygiene procedures, but also on a regular visit to the dentist’s office. This is due primarily to the large number of negative factors that our teeth are exposed to daily and hourly. Preventive examinations should be carried out regularly – at least once a year, and even better – once every six months. This simple rule is not followed by most patients – they visit the dentist when the disease is advanced and requires urgent treatment.

Dental Treatment: Why Should You Treat Caries?

Caries, like other diseases of the oral cavity, does not appear immediately. Destruction of enamel is a lengthy process that is often invisible to humans. The disease progresses and over time, caries affects the inside of the tooth, resulting in pulpitis. Untimely cured pulpitis “transforms” into periodontitis, periostitis. Sooner or later, this will lead to the fact that the patient will no longer need the help of the dentist, and the result will be a complete loss of molars.

The longer the visit to the dental office is delayed, the longer, more complex and expensive is the procedure for restoring the functionality and appearance of the tooth. That is why, even with the appearance of stains on the enamel or a sharp short-term toothache, you should contact your dentist.

In addition, bacteria that colonize the oral cavity in various diseases of the teeth and gums have an extremely negative effect on the entire body, which is expressed not only in bad breath, but also in disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, a decrease in immunity.

Treatment for gums: why should they be treated?

The risk of gum disease is associated with a number of negative factors, including stress, unbalanced diet, bad habits, inadequate oral hygiene and, as a result, deterioration of the immune system.

One of the primary signs of gum disease is bleeding. Its appearance indicates that the disease is already neglected and treatment cannot be postponed. There are a great many methods and preparations for treating gums, but timeliness is an important factor affecting the effectiveness of treatment. Remember that chronic gum disease is a very common cause of tooth loss.

Therapeutic dentistry: what do we treat?

In order for the smile to be perfect, an integrated approach is required, which includes treatment:

  • 1
    Caries. It is the most common disease that affects about 98% of the world’s adult population. It develops gradually, sometimes without manifesting itself in any way. Bone tissue gradually softens, which allows bacteria to enter the tooth.
  • 2
    Pulpita. Inflammation of nerve endings and blood vessels, which is most often a continuation of caries. Modern technologies allow to preserve blood vessels and nerves and prolong the life of a tooth.
  • 3
    Periodontitis. This is another complication of caries, manifested in the damage to the tissues surrounding the molar. Dental treatment for periodontitis involves a full range of measures. All gum diseases. Gingivitis and periodontitis, which begin completely harmlessly – with bleeding of the gums when brushing teeth, lead to the destruction of cat tissue, less dense contact of the gums with the roots, as a result of which the teeth become mobile (periodontitis) and fall out.

In order to prevent caries, the dentist performs the following procedures:

  • removes deposits using professional cleaning, polishes the surface of the teeth;
  • in order to restore the integrity of the enamel, remineralization is carried out, which involves the treatment of damaged tissues using special means (most often based on calcium and fluorine compounds).

In the initial stages, caries is most often manifested in fissures (grooves on the occlusal surfaces of the molar). They are the ones that receive the least attention when brushing your teeth. In this case, the treatment takes about 30-40 minutes, and in order not to miss the initial manifestations of caries, you should do a professional teeth cleaning every six months.

In our clinic, the damaged area is restored using the Icon system. This is the so-called “liquid filling”, which is applied to the demineralized surface, filling all pores and depressions. The enamel is stabilized, acquires its original color and density, and is sealed, which ensures reliable protection of the tooth.

For deep caries, the following symptoms are characteristic:

  • 1
    short-term pain when taking hot or cold food;
  • 2
    the presence of a carious cavity;
  • 3
    darkening on x-ray in the root area or between molars;
  • 4
    prolonged aching pain.

Periodontitis presents with a variety of symptoms and can be acute or chronic. With prolonged inflammation, the patient experiences recurrent pain, aggravated by hypothermia or stress, tooth shakiness, bleeding, swelling of the gums. In an acute form, a reaction to the intake of cold or hot food appears, the temperature rises, bad breath appears, and the gums become inflamed.

Periodontitis treatment is carried out in several stages:

  • Training. Opening the tooth and cleaning the root canals. Removal of the infected dentin layer, removal of fluid accumulated at the site of inflammation.
  • Antiseptic treatment. The doctor performs canal disinfection, drug placement, ultrasonic physiotherapy.
  • Canal filling. The stage on which the quality of treatment depends to the greatest extent, after which a temporary filling is installed.
  • Tooth filling. Installation of permanent restoration material.
