Remove tooth nerve

The dental nerve is part of the pulp, the soft connective tissue that is made up of nerve fibers and blood vessels. Thanks to its presence, a person feels pain, the supply of nutrients to dentin is regulated, and enamel mineralization occurs. A tooth without a nerve is more susceptible to destruction, since it does not receive the necessary elements, however, in a number of diseases, its removal is a mandatory procedure. Amel Dental Clinic offers painless tooth nerve extraction in Dnipro, but first we want to tell you more about this simple and painless procedure.

The court doctor of the Emperor Napoleon treated his master’s pulpitis with arsenic. He applied this deadly poison to the focus of inflammation, and the main task of the high-ranking patient was not to swallow a single grain of “medicine”.

Why removing a tooth nerve is no longer scary

Depulpation has long been a painless procedure, and a tooth deprived of a nerve can serve for many years to come. Everything terrible that you heard about this operation is in the past. The difference is in the technologies used.

As it was before:

  • 1
    the nerve was removed without anesthesia, and the tooth was “frozen” only when it was completely removed;
  • 2
    arsenic was used to kill the nerve, which had a negative effect on the body.

In addition, the filling of the canals was carried out without X-ray diagnostics, and zinc-phosphate mixtures were used as fillings, as a result of which the quality of treatment left much to be desired.

How do we perform tooth nerve extraction now:

  • 1
    all manipulations are performed using high-quality anesthesia;
  • 2
    special pastes (arsenic-free) are used to kill the nerve.

As for the filling of the canal tooth, X-ray diagnostics are performed to control its quality: before and after the procedure. For filling, gutta-percha is used – a durable and flexible material that fills the canal well.

Dental nerve removal: basic indications

Depulpation is an extreme measure, and in most cases we try to use tooth-preserving methods of treatment, however, sometimes it is not possible to avoid removing the nerve and cleaning the canals.

The main indications for the procedure:

  • severe carious lesion that has reached the pulp, resulting in pulpitis;
  • periodontitis;
  • large carious cavity;
  • significant physical damage to the tooth, leading to its destruction and exposure of the nerve.

There are contraindications for removing the nerve.

The procedure is not performed for the following diseases:

  • stomatitis;
  • open tuberculosis;
  • viral hepatitis;
  • acute infections.

How to remove a dental nerve

Depulpation is started after confirmation of the damage to the dental nerve. For this purpose, X-ray diagnostics, visual inspection and cold test are used. Treatment is performed in one or more visits (usually two visits to the dentist are sufficient).

Stages of pulping:

  • 1
    anesthesia – local anesthesia allows you to completely eliminate pain when removing the nerve;
  • 2
    removal of the enamel layer affected by caries;
  • 3
    removal of a dental nerve with a special instrument;
  • 4
    mechanical and drug treatment of canals, expansion of dental canals and their subsequent filling.

The final stage is the restoration of the tooth crown. A permanent filling is placed immediately after the material has hardened in the canals.

The procedure is identical for all cases where depulpation is indicated, regardless of whether the nerve is removed from the anterior tooth or molars. Removal of nerves in wisdom teeth is carried out using the same technique, although it is rarely used due to the fact that their dental canals have significant curvatures and are difficult to treat.
