We employ the best specialists in the field of orthopedic dentistry, we use digital diagnostic methods and the latest technologies for the manufacture of dental ortho structures. We ourselves will make a prosthesis for you from high quality materials, taking into account all the anatomical features of the structure of the dentition and bite.

What is clasp prosthetics and when is it prescribed

The peculiarity of the clasp prosthesis in the structure of the supporting structural element. It has the shape of an arc (in German: Bügel). This shape connects the left and right sides of the jaw and allows prosthetics of the lost lateral and anterior teeth. Clasp prostheses are made of ceramic on a metal basis. This is an excellent option for restoring the dentition when it is not possible to perform prosthetics on implants.

Indications for the installation of a clasp prosthesis:

  • the absence of several teeth in a row in the dentition (at least 3 at the edges and at least 4 in the middle of the row);
  • teeth mobility in periodontitis (clasp prosthesis performs the function of stabilizing and strengthening the dentition);
  • fast abrasion of contact surfaces;
  • unilateral adentia;
  • defects of the lower or upper jaw;
  • bite correction with total adentia (combined with the installation of implants);
  • grinding teeth in sleep;
  • teeth defects.

Contraindications:

  • deep bite;
  • absence of all molars and incisors;
  • bone atrophy in the prosthetic area;
  • poor condition of the abutment teeth;
  • periodontal disease;
  • a number of diseases of the body (cancer, diabetes mellitus, acute stage of pulmonary, cardiovascular diseases);
  • mental disorders.

The service life of the clasp prosthesis is up to 10 years, so the decision to install it is made after a comprehensive examination of the patient: analysis of the condition of the teeth that can become supporting, checking the sensitivity of the gums, the structure of the alveolar processes.

Varieties of clasp prostheses

The main criterion for the classification of clasp prostheses is the method of attachment to the patient’s jaw.

Amel Dental Clinic can install the following structures:

1. Clasp prosthesis on attachments.

An attachment is a kind of two-piece lock. To install the prosthesis, one part is implanted into the abutment teeth of the prosthetic segment, and the second is fixed on the clasp. A clasp prosthesis with locks equally distributes the load between the gums and abutment teeth. Its advantage is that the locks are not visible from the outside, and the teeth are rigidly fixed. Minus – mechanical processing of the reference unit.

2. Clasp prosthesis.

This is the classic version of the clasp prosthesis. The structure is attached to the support units using metal hooks (clasps), while 2/3 of the load falls on the gums, and only 1/3 on the support teeth. The arch on the clasps also fixes the splinting structure installed to fix movable teeth.

The advantages are affordable price, functionality and durability. The disadvantage is that clasps are noticeable if a person smiles broadly, therefore clasp structures are used to restore the dentition in the lateral segment.

3. Clasp prosthesis on a telescopic attachment system.

From the point of view of aesthetics, this is the best clasp prosthetics technique. Even if you smile broadly, others will not notice the fixing elements of the prosthesis. But this result is achieved due to the integrity of healthy teeth. The telescopic arch is a bridge with telescopic crowns at the edges. To install such a prosthesis, it is necessary to partially grind the support units and cover them with metal. Telescopic crowns fit perfectly on prepared abutment teeth. The result is a secure fit, excellent appearance.

4. Metal-free clasp prosthesis.

Ideal for patients with metal allergies. The design is based on an elastic and durable thermoplastic (acetalan), and soft clamps, safe for enamel, are used for fixation. Acetal prostheses are as strong as metal-based constructions, and at the same time, they replenish lost teeth as naturally as possible. Naturalness is due to the fact that during the manufacture of the prosthesis, the specialist selects a biopolymer that is identical in color to the shade of the patient’s gums.

The metal-free clasp prosthesis on the upper jaw can be either partial (on one side) or bilateral. When the acetal structure is installed on the upper jaw, the palate remains open, so the presence of a prosthesis does not affect the patient’s taste.

Advantages of clasp prosthetics

  • 1
    normalization of speech;
  • 2
    restoration of functionality (chewing function);
  • 3
    correct distribution of the load on the teeth and gums;
  • 4
    compact design, wearing comfort;
  • 5
    the ability to wear around the clock (the prosthesis is removed only for cleaning);
  • 6
    fixing strength, which is important for a removable structure;
  • 7
    long service life (5-10 years);
  • 8
    low cost compared to prosthetics on implants.
