Place photopolymer fillings

The main enemy of tooth enamel is caries. There are many methods of countering this disease, and one of these methods is tooth filling. Correct functional dental treatment can radically affect the quality of life, because the health of many organ systems in the human body depends on the health of the oral cavity. For this reason, Amel Dental Clinic uses therapies to preserve and strengthen your teeth.

We use innovative achievements in modern dentistry and make available in Ukraine advanced high-quality methods of treatment and prevention of dental diseases. We know when and how to place a filling on a tooth, so that you can smile openly, so that your smile looks great and you feel confident.

Why and when to fill a tooth?

The main purpose of a dental filling is to restore the integrity of the crown part of the tooth. Placing a tooth filling not only reconstructs, but also protects healthy tissues from further destruction, the spread of infection.

The main cause of tooth decay is bacteria, the culprit for the development of caries. They attack tooth enamel and gradually lead to its destruction. The second cause of enamel erosion is acids, which are found in some fruits, natural juices and other food products (for example, grapes, citrus fruits). So a filling may be required even if you don’t have tooth decay.

In what cases does the doctor recommend filling a tooth?

  • caries treatment at different stages;
  • treatment of complications of caries (pulpitis, periodontitis);
  • re-treatment in case of recurrence of caries after treatment;
  • replacement of the old restoration if the old filling begins to deteriorate;
  • reconstruction of a tooth after mechanical damage (cracks, chips);
  • erasing the enamel.

Types of tooth filling

According to the time of wearing, seals are divided into two types:

  • temporary structures;
  • permanent.

Depending on the degree of tooth decay, treatment can take place in one or two stages. In a two-stage treatment (deep caries, pulpitis), at the first stage, caries treatment, pulp devitalization, and drug laying are performed. For the period of action of the devitalizing paste and drugs, the cavity is sealed with a temporary seal to avoid food ingress and re-infection.

A permanent seal is installed:

  • 1
    at the second stage of the two-stage treatment of complicated caries;
  • 2
    with one-stage filling of teeth in cases of treatment of superficial or uncomplicated caries;
  • 3
    when restoring the functionality of a tooth after mechanical damage, if it did not lead to a violation of the internal structure of the dental crown.

Types of dental fillings are also classified according to the type of filling material:

Photopolymer fillings

Light-curing composite materials have long been the most demanded in practical modern dentistry. Filling with photopolymer materials is carried out with a small scale of tooth damage.

Advantages of photopolymer composites:

  • strength;
  • the ability to choose a shade that matches the color of the patient’s natural tooth enamel;
  • excellent polishability and gloss retention for many years;
  • the esthetics of the restoration – the most natural result;
  • bioinertness and safety;
  • high wear resistance (resistance to abrasion, chips);
  • durability.

The new generation of photopolymer fillings have the same strength, density and light refraction characteristics as natural tooth enamel.

Glass ionomer materials for dental filling

The material for making such seals is glass ionomer cement, which is characterized by high strength, hardness, and long service life.

Scope of application of glass ionomer cement:

  • in pediatric dentistry – placing a seal on milk teeth;
  • in orthopedic dentistry – as the most reliable material for fixing crowns, pins, inlays from different materials;
  • in orthodontics – fixation of ortho structures;
  • fissure sealing;
  • reconstruction of the tooth stump.

Advantages of filling with glass ionomer cement:

  • excellent adhesion to tooth tissues without using an auxiliary chemical adhesive;
  • additional function – protection against caries due to the release of fluoride ions;
  • ease of application;
  • radiopacity;
  • excellent biocompatibility;
  • excellent aesthetic characteristics.

Tab

Inlays are already a product of orthopedic dentistry. They are used to restore the shape and functionality of the dental crown in case of serious damage, when the installation of a filling on the tooth is impossible. Inlays are made using CAD / CAM technology from different materials. Amel Dental Clinic uses zirconium inlays, which are manufactured in its own dental laboratory.

Applying tabs:

  • large carious cavities;
  • partial destruction of the tooth as a result of trauma;
  • destruction of abutment teeth when installing a bridge;
  • wedge-shaped defect;
  • dysplasia, enamel hypoplasia.

Benefits of tabs:

  • accuracy of tooth reconstruction;
  • full compliance of the tab with the color of the tooth enamel;
  • the ability to manufacture a structure of any shape;
  • reliability and durability of reconstruction using zirconium inlays;
  • structural strength.

How long does it take to place a filling on a tooth? The main stages of filling

Filling with photopolymer materials is carried out in several stages:

  • 1
    Preparation (cleaning the enamel, determining the shade of the enamel).
  • 2
    Anesthesia.
  • 3
    Tooth isolation (rubber dam application).
  • 4
    Tooth preparation, removal of carious tissues, cavity formation.
  • 5
    Drying and etching the walls of the cavity.
  • 6
    In the case of caries treatment, the laying of a medical pad.
  • 7
    Installation of the matrix (if necessary).
  • 8
    Application of a composite and its polymerization using a polymerization lamp (filling material is applied in layers).
  • 9
    Finishing of the restoration (contouring, grinding, polishing to a high shine).

To put a glass ionomer cement filling, the doctor performs the same manipulations as for photopolymer filling (preparation, injection of anesthetic, isolation, treatment). After that, the dentist mixes the material and fills the cavity with it. Special matrices are used to form the contact surfaces of the tooth, to model the material in the cervical area. The last step is to remove excess material and sand the surface.

Tooth restoration with a tab in Amel Dental Clinic is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • 3D scanning;
  • structural modeling;
  • manufacturing of a microprosthesis;
  • fitting and adjusting the tab for the correct restoration of the bite;
  • fixing the structure with special glue;
  • removal of glue residues, finishing of the restoration.
