Recommendations after caries treatment
After the restoration of the tooth due to the treatment of caries, it is recommended to refrain from eating until the end of the local anesthesia. there is a risk of cheek and tongue biting.
It is also recommended to refrain from consuming products that can stain the restoration, such as beets, carrots, coffee, cola, etc. This is due to the fact that at first the filling material is prone to rehydration and can absorb the unwanted pigment contained in these products.
You should also take very seriously the self-control over the chewing load applied to the treated tooth, because its restoration is often associated with a change in its anatomical shape and the dental-jaw apparatus needs some time to adapt to new occlusal conditions.
After caries treatment, the patient may have unpleasant sensations in the area of the restored tooth for up to 15 days, which, in principle, is the norm.
However, there are a number of symptoms that you need to pay attention to, and if they occur, it is recommended to consult a doctor:
- Pulsating, increasing pain in the area of the treated tooth, swelling of the gums.
- Discomfort when the teeth are closed, a feeling of “overstatement” of the filling, pain when chewing.
- The appearance of pain in the area of the chewing muscles, “pulling” sensations of the neck muscles, paroxysmal headache.
- Bad taste in the mouth, burning sensation on the tongue/cheeks.
